Airport Transfers

- Rolling Road -

We are pleased to recommend Rolling Road Transfers
for your airport transfer needs this winter.

They are a friendly British-run company that operates a fleet of modern 8-seater vehicles, and are fully insured and licensed for professional transportation of paying customers in France and Switzerland.

Rolling Road logo, our airport transfer partner

A hassle-free airport transfer is vital to the enjoyment of your holiday and with so many companies now operating in this area it can be tricky to filter the good ones from the not so good! Over the last few years we have heard nothing but praise from our guests when it comes to the transfers provided by Rolling Road, a company that we feel mirrors the personal extra-mile service that we strive to offer in our chalets.

We keep a close eye on prices and believe that Rolling Road offer good value for money. If you find something much cheaper there will normally be a catch! You won't be stung for late flight surcharges, fuel surcharges, VAT or any other hidden fees that are charged by a lot of firms. They will also bring you to the door of the chalet rather than dropping you off in the middle of the resort!

The easiest way is to let us know that you would like a transfer via the ‘Manage my Booking’ page on this website and we will organise it for you. We will make all of the arrangements on your behalf and David or Sarah from Rolling Road will send you a booking confirmation voucher by email detailing where to meet them, contact details and pick up times for the return journey.

If you prefer to make the booking yourself please see the Rolling Road website for all contact details.

Airport transfers are priced in euros but can be booked through us for payment in Sterling a fortnight prior to your departure (BACS or card payment with 3% surcharge). To see our current exchange rates click here. If you prefer we can accept euros in resort but we are classed as an agent for such transactions and they will not form part of your holiday package or be covered by our financial failure insurance.

In a nutshell, a private transfer is like your own taxi. You pay for the vehicle not for your seat. A private transfer involves no waiting at either end.

A shared transfer is much more economical but you should expect a short wait for other people travelling on the same transfer and other pick-ups on the way back to the airport.

Ski Hire

Great news... all rental equipment can be fitted in the comfort of any of our chalets. There's no need to jump on the bus and queue in a shop when you could be enjoying a glass of wine instead!

At Chalet Thalassa we have our own ski hire service and for all other chalets we are pleased to work with our friends at Doorstep Skis.

It is important that you are happy with rental equipment before you pay for it! As such payment is made in euros in resort and does not form part of your holiday package.

- Doorstep Skis -

After several years of very successful partnership we will be working with Doorstep Skis again this winter.

They offer a mobile ski hire service that is second to none with competitive prices, friendly technicians and a great range of well-maintained ski and snowboard equipment. On top of all this, they come to you... No more waiting in queues in busy shops! Just put your feet up and wait for them to arrive.

help to protect the planet

Doorstep Skis donates 1% of any bookings they take online to CoolEarth. To date they have managed to secure and protect 327 acres of rainforest. For more information about the project, take a look at the 'CoolEarth' section on their website.

All electricity used at the Doorstep Skis workshop is now supplied from 100% renewable sources and furthermore they've switched to using new NST environmentally friendly ski waxes. There is no discernible difference in performance from traditional waxes, but these are 100% bio-degradable when broken down.

- Chalet THALASSA Ski Hire -

We have skis and boots to suit all ages and abilities and
our prices are far better than the shop prices in town.

If you give us your sizes in advance you can save up to a further 15% and payment is only taken at the end of your stay. We have over 120 pairs of skis and are improving the stock every year with the help of Salomon UK. Whilst we don't currently have snowboard rental stock we work closely with Doorstep Skis for all your snowboarding needs.

There's nothing worse than queuing for a lift pass when all you want to do is make the most of your ski time! To that end why not reserve your lift passes through us and we can have them waiting for you in your accommodation on arrival.

Ski passes are priced in euros and can be added to your booking via the ‘Manage My Booking’ section of this website. We will invoice in Sterling for these prior to your holiday. To see our current exchange rates click here.

Prices are in EURO

Prices shown don't include the 'hand-free' pass which costs 3 Euros.

  • Under 5 year old = free
  • Child = between 5 and 15
  • Youth = between 16 and 19
  • Senior = over 64

Whilst we try to keep up to date with all special offers there are a lot of online ski pass deals that are not available to us as chalet operators (early booking prices, flash sales, family tickets etc). The best place to see all current promotions is the Portes du Soleil website.

- Ski Pass : FAQ -

What is the difference between a local pass and a full area pass?

The local pass only covers the slopes of Morzine and Les Gets whilst the full area pass allows you to access the entire Portes du Soleil domain, with over 650km of slopes in 13 resorts either side of the French-Swiss border.

Local Pass = 120 km & Access Only to Morzine-Les Gets

Full Area = 650 km & Access to 12 resorts

Are the lift passes ‘hands free’?

Yes, and although prices are advertised without the 3 Euros for a hands-free card they are now compulsory for any passes of longer than a day. You should therefore budget for an additional 3 euros!

When do I need to decide on which passes I want?

If you would like us to have your passes waiting at the chalet please let us know via the 'Manage my booking' section a fortnight prior to your arrival at the latest.

How do prices compare to other major ski areas?

The prices for the Portes du Soleil compare very well and passes are significantly cheaper than the Paradiski, Three Valleys and Chamonix Mont Blanc areas to name but a few. The Portes du Soleil is over 40 euros cheaper for a week than a Chamonix pass for example.

Is the full area pass worth the money?

In our opinion yes it is. The difference in price is relatively small when you compare the amount of terrain that each pass lets you ski. In addition to that, the full area pass gives added peace of mind in times of poor snowfall as the slopes of Avoriaz and Les Crosets are almost 1000m higher than Morzine. We normally suggest that anyone able to ski reasonably confidently on gentle runs will benefit from being able to access these higher slopes and see more of the area.

So should total beginners order a local pass?

A local area Morzine pass will be more than adequate for beginners (assuming they are having lessons locally and not in Avoriaz). Before ordering it through us it is worth considering booking an inclusive package with the ski school to include lessons and pass (saving of 10%). If you are having lessons in Avoriaz it is possible to buy local passes for there but only 2 days at a time.

How can we pay for our lift passes?

Ski pass prices are shown in euros but can be ordered through us for payment in Sterling a fortnight prior to your departure (BACS or card payment with 3% surcharge). To see our current exchange rates click here.. If you prefer we can accept euros in resort but we are classed as an agent for such transactions and they will not form part of your holiday package or be covered by our financial failure insurance.

What reductions are available for children / youths /seniors?

Children under 5 don’t need a lift pass at all whilst children aged 5 – 15 qualify for the ‘child’ price. A ‘youth’ pass only exists in the full area and is defined as someone 16 – 19 years old. People over the age of 65 qualify for the ‘senior’ rate.

Can you get the reduced rate family passes that we have seen advertised?

Unfortunately not! We are not authorized to collect these on your behalf and you will need to show ID at the ticket office to be eligible for the reductions.

Why are there different prices for full area passes in the early and late season?

The passes are cheaper in early December and in April to reflect the fact that there is likely to be less of the ski area open. It is anticipated that a lot of the lower slopes will be closed at this time.

Ski Schools

This winter we are working closely with 3 ski schools that we feel offer a good range of quality English-speaking tuition with sensible group sizes.

Morzine

Easy 2 Ride Logo

Easy 2 Ride are our long-term partners in Morzine and have consistently looked after our guests brilliantly for many seasons. Their English-speaking office staff will ensure a smooth booking process and we know that you will be in safe hands when it comes to the quality of tuition. Alongside traditional ski school groups and private tuition they now offer an ‘Easy Rider' freeride group for teenagers. Group sizes are deliberately small (maximum 6 in beginner groups) so as to make sure that everyone gets the right amount of tuition.

Example of price: rivate lessons; midweek 2 hour lesson €120 - €140 for 1 or 2 people. €20 per extra person. Full price list for Easy2Ride ski lessons HERE.

BASS Logo

The British Alpine Ski School is run by some of the best very best British instructors with a focus on delivering high quality tuition whilst retaining the personal service for which they have become known in the last decade. As well as traditional ski school classes they offer an excellent ‘Mini-beginner' course for children as young as 4, and at the other end of the scale they can accommodate even the most experienced skiers in their bumps and off-piste performance groups.

Example of price: Private lessons; 2 hour private lesson €230 for one person. Full price list for BASS ski lessons HERE.

Avoriaz

Avoriaz Alpine Ski School Logo

We receive plenty of requests for lessons in Avoriaz and for that reason we have teamed up with Avoriaz Alpine Ski School, the first British run ski school in France (established in 1992). They offer a great range of courses at sensible prices and we can’t recommend them highly enough. All instructors hold the top level international qualification and they can cater for everyone from novices right through to experts on backcountry courses and even a mogul masterclass. The 5 afternoon Junior Black Run Camp is great for those kids who are just too cool for traditional ski school, and they will be tired out after skiing everything the mountain has to offer!

Example of price: Private lessons; 2 hour private lesson for one person €160 plus €15 per extra person. Full price list for Avoriaz Alpine Ski School lessons HERE.

Private Instructors

Annie Donovan skiing

Annie Donovan is an experienced and highly talented ski instructor who teaches many of our guests every year on Inspired to Ski courses. Anyone looking for private tuition or something a bit more than traditional ski school lessons should check out Annie’s website. Annie specialises in advanced tuition and particularly enjoys converting piste skiers to powder hounds! She can offer everything from a couple of hours tuition through to full day tours off the beaten track. Her prices are very reasonable and we believe that people of all ages and ability levels will improve their skills dramatically by spending time in the company of an instructor who is right at the top of her game.

Ski Skills -Mike Hammond has spent more than 35 years as a Ski Teacher, racer and race coach. He offers group and private lessons in Avoriaz & Morzine in the winter season and during the inter-season in The Snow Centre, Hemel Hempstead.
