Chalet Les Ardoisiers - Description

"...wood is a key feature of this 5 bedroom / 15 person property that oozes class. Spacious and yet cosy, traditional..."

At well over a century old Chalet Ardoisiers has stood the test of time. It is one of the original buildings in the Udrezants sector of Morzine - a quaint and picturesque hamlet at the entrance to the valley of the slate mines. The chalet has played host to many miners ("Ardoisiers") over the years with hundreds of people working in this industry and local slates adorning the roofs of most chalets.

The current owners have restored it to a high standard whilst respecting the architectural traditions of the area. As the owners of a sawmill they have also ensured that wood is a key feature of this 5 bedroom / 15 person property that oozes class. Spacious and yet cosy, traditional but elegant, this chalet has long been operated as a classic French Chambres D'Hotes and we are delighted to write the next chapter in its long history!

"... bluetooth sound systems in every room, an outdoor hot tub and a traditional indoor sauna."

If you are looking for a perfectly symmetrical new-build ski chalet with flat pack furniture this is definitely not the one for you! Chalet Ardoisiers boasts a huge floor area of 400 square metres and is one of the largest properties in the sector. From its many balconies guests can admire the wide open slopes of Le Pleney or check out the conditions on the high slopes of Avoriaz. Given its location halfway between the two ski areas and the free ski bus that stops just a short walk from the door it is easy to access the very best skiing that the Portes du Soleil has to offer. If you have sufficient energy in the evening the bars of the old town of Morzine are just a 8 - 10 minute walk away.

Upon your return from skiing a practical side entrance gives direct access to the ski room and heated boot racks before you make your way through in to the spacious and comfortable lounge. With its log burning stove, big flatscreen TV and sumptuous sofas you may not make it any further! That said, the short walk through the charming entrance and hallway to the stunning open-plan dining room and farmhouse kitchen is worthwhile for homemade cake, speciality teas and coffees and access to the bar fridge! The chalet is well equipped from a relaxation point of view as, along with the natural space that is not always evident in newer properties, we have bluetooth sound systems in every room, an outdoor hot tub and a traditional indoor sauna.

The ground floor of the chalet is devoted almost entirely to communal spaces (including a handy baggage store and spare shower for departure day) whilst the five large ensuite bedrooms occupy the two floors above. Two separate staircases lead to the rooms, all of which have separate bath/shower rooms and WC for your comfort. All beds are full size singles and the generously sized rooms boast bespoke furniture, original features combined seamlessly with new additions and private balconies. Quad and triple rooms are great for families but also for groups of friends looking to keep costs down. Our 3rd and 4th bed discounts apply to people of all ages, not just children!

  • Les Lapiaz- Twin room with shower and WC
  • Les Bellons - Triple room with shower and WC
  • Les Lauzes - Twin room with shower and WC
  • Les Juges - Quad room on two levels with Shower cubicle, bath and WC
  • Le Fangle - Quad suite under the eaves with two separate sleeping areas, shower and WC

What can we arrange for you ?

As well as making sure that your accommodation and food meets and exceeds your expectations we can help to remove most of the usual stresses associated with a ski holiday. There's so much to think about but once you have booked your stay with us we will gladly guide you through the minefield of airport transfers, ski passes, equipment rental, ski lessons and so forth. Take a look at the "My Holiday" section of this site for more comprehensive information and if anything isn’t clear just give us a shout! We work with carefully selected partners in resort to make sure that we are recommending the best options at the best prices.

We understand that ski holidays are not cheap and that’s why it is important to pick a company that will go the extra mile for you. We pride ourselves on our personalised professionalism.

Transport in Resort

We don't provide lifts to the slopes or back from town as all of our chalets are conveniently located near a free ski bus stop, giving you the freedom to come and go as you please.

However, if you need an evening taxi to get back from town or would like us to arrange a taxi every morning to the cable cars we will gladly book these for you in resort or in advance. Depending on the time of day a taxi from the centre of resort to the chalet will be around €20 for an 8 seater minibus.

We are always happy to welcome younger guests to our chalets and understand the expense involved with a family ski holiday. To that end we have some of the biggest child reductions in the area and can tailor our service to help Mum and Dad by suppling cots, stair gates, high chairs etc in all chalets. Each chalet has a safe outside space in which children can enjoy building snowmen!

We also offer a children's menu in all chalets. Our approach to this is simple; we have a chat with you about your children's diet to find out what they like and what they don't like. We usually offer the same menu as the parents but simplified and with no strong flavours. For example with the Tartiflette, we will use less garlic, less onion, no wine, less reblochon (smelly local cheese) but more bacon, more Emmental and green beans or carrots as a side dish. However we are happy to do any of the classic children's favourites such as fish fingers, cottage pie, spaghetti bolognaise … and there is always plenty of tomato sauce in stock!

Should you wish for your little ones to be looked after (either in the comfort of the chalet or the local snow garden) we can help you to make arrangements. There are plenty of great childcare options in the area.

Jack Frost's:

A well run and highly professional British nanny agency that can either offer a service in the comfort of the chalet or collect the children from their ski lessons. The nanny brings a selection of toys, arranges a whole range of fun activities during the week and can cook a simple and healthy lunch. They can arrange to do some baby-sitting during the evenings too.

Cheeky Monkeys:

Another British-run company based in Morzine. They can care for your children in the holiday chalet or they can also provide a pick up and drop off service for children in ski school. The nanny brings a selection of toys suitable for all ages and the nanny will have a selection of activities arranged for your children during the week.

Piou-Piou club:

From 3 years old. This is the nursery club of the French Ski School (ESF) in Morzine. Children are looked after in a "snow kindergarten" or on the slopes by ESF instructors. When the children are not partaking in skiing activities, the team of instructors will provide fun indoor and outdoor activities, depending on the weather.

L'Outa Nursery:

This fully accredited creche in Morzine looks after children from 3 months old to 5 years and is run by a non-profit organisation. It has a dedicated baby room for children under 16 months old with feeding stations, changing rooms and beds. Older children benefit from play rooms, a dining room and a great outdoor playground.

Evening meal on Chalet Days off

Morzine has a great culinary tradition and the world is your oyster! When you arrive, we will be more than happy to chat about your preferences, recommend and book a restaurant table for you.

Morzine tourist office also offers a great directory of all the restaurants in town.

- Our cuisine --

"Our cuisine follows a simple philosophy; Hearty meals carefully prepared with fresh local produce"

Sylvie, like most Belgians, is passionate about good food and has an excellent palate. She has put this to good use in order to create a menu which is a perfect blend of British, Belgian and Savoyard cuisine. The local specialities such as traditional Tartiflette or a classic French Onion Soup are an important part of our menus, but you will also discover some out of the ordinary dishes such as our Speculoos (caramelised biscuit) Tiramisu or the ‘Carbonades flamandes' (Belgian beef stew), interspersed with comforting British classics such as apple crumble and chicken pie.

The evening menu will be written up each morning and if we have been unfortunate enough to pick something you don’t like just let us know.

At the end of the day, the most important thing for us is that you enjoy your food. This is your holiday, not ours!
