Holiday Extras

Once you have made your decision to book a stay with Host Savoie we will be in constant contact to help with all of your pre-holiday admin. Claire is on standby to help with everything from airport transfers to equipment hire and childcare bookings, ski passes and lessons. No matter how big or small we will work with you to find a solution for any individual requirements. We are regularly asked for massage bookings, restaurant reservations and paragliding flights, and in the past have sourced skidoo excursions, ice diving instructors and even helicopter transfers. You'll find plenty of information about the various holiday extras in this section but if we can help just say the word!

Airport Transfers

We are pleased to be able to offer airport transfers at competitive rates again this coming winter. Our main supplier of choice is Ski-Lifts and they act as an agent for many excellent local firms, mostly operating fleets of 7/8 seater minibuses. They and any other contractors we opt to use will always be fully insured and licensed for professional transportation of paying customers in France and Switzerland.

Why don't we operate our own vehicles? In order to offer maximum flexibility to our guests we firmly believe in outsourcing to the professionals. This is what they do and thanks to our close ties we can arrange transfers for any size of group and at any time of the day or night!

Why Book with Us

A hassle-free airport transfer is vital to the enjoyment of your holiday and with so many companies now operating in this area it can be tricky to filter the good ones from the not so good! Our guests regularly praise the stress-free transfer experience offered by our partners and we feel that they mirror the personal extra-mile service that we strive to offer in our chalets.

We keep a close eye on prices and believe that the rates shown represent good value for money. If you find something much cheaper there will normally be a catch! You won't be stung for late flight surcharges, fuel surcharges, VAT or any other hidden fees that are charged by a lot of firms. Our partners will also bring you to the door of the chalet rather than dropping you off in the middle of the resort!

PLEASE NOTE: There are many scheduled shuttles to Morzine that work out a little cheaper than our door to door transfers. If you do wish to book one of these we are unable to provide transport from the central drop off point to the chalets. Our staff will be busy doing other things and they do not have access to vehicles.

How to Book

The easiest way is to let us know that you would like a transfer via the 'Manage my Booking' page on this website and we will organise it for you. We will make all of the arrangements on your behalf and keep in touch by email prior to your departure to let you know where to meet your driver and contact details for emergencies. Pick up times on the way home will be communicated the day before (via chalet staff and/or a text message to your mobile) once schedules have been finalised.

How to Pay

Airport transfers are priced in Sterling and can be booked through us at the same time as your stay or in the weeks leading up to your holiday. We will simply update your booking and send you a revised invoice for payment. Please note that as of 2021 we no longer accept payment in cash. All payments need to be made by card or bank transfer and prior to arrival.

Shared or Private

In a nutshell, a private transfer is like your own taxi. You pay for the vehicle not for your seat. A private transfer involves no waiting at either end.

A shared transfer is much more economical but you should expect a short wait for other people travelling on the same transfer and other pick-ups on the way back to the airport.

Price 2024-25 for Shared transfer ONE WAY

Whilst we can honour the rates below on the vast majority of occasions we are at the mercy of an increasingly smaller pool of transfer suppliers (post Brexit and pandemic). The remaining transfer operators have introduced variable pricing models and we must unfortunately reserve the right to reject a request for a transfer altogether when our suppliers are all fully booked, or to re quote with a surcharge to cover our costs when suppliers increase rates in peak season. The best way to avoid such a scenario is to book your transfer through us as early as possible.

Bars in Morzine

Great selection of bars in Morzine

There is a great collection of bars in Morzine, ranging from rustic traditional places to newer trendy watering holes. There are two distinct centres where bars are concerned - around the river and church in the old town and in the streets near the tourist office and Pleney cable car base station.

We like Dixie and Rhodos for live sport and Le Coup de Coeur for something a bit more upmarket (with a huge range of whiskies). For a cocktail you can't beat Beanies and they often have live music too. Prices vary and there are plenty of happy hour promotions to be found, but on average you can expect to pay around 6 euros for a large beer.

Bon Appetit

Sometimes you just don't want to cook or go out to a restaurant but fortunately we have that particular base covered! We work closely with Chef Martin Clare at Bon Appetit Alpes and he can deliver delicious frozen meals to your door at short notice. Just reheat and eat! We are slowly working our way through his entire menu and are particularly keen on the curries! The hot lemon pudding is also right up there on our list of favourites!

Simply order before 3pm for same day delivery direct to your accommodation.

Bus - Free Service in Morzine

The bus service is free within Morzine with several different lines in service. Each of them passes through the centre of Morzine or the Town Hall and serves a particular sector.

There are 8 different bus lines but the most useful if you are staying in one of our catered chalets is line A. It links Pleney (Morzine's main cable car), and Prodains (cable car to Avoriaz)

More about the different bus lines in Morzine:

  • Line A | Les Prodains - Express d'Avoriaz: A frequent service that starts at Pleney, passes by the Tourist Office in the centre of Morzine and goes to the end of the valley at Prodains.
  • Line M | Morzine Town Hall - Ardent: via Montriond Lake. Ardent Cable car is very practical if you want to ski Chatel or the Swiss sector.
  • Line D | Mas Metoud: Tourist Office - South side of Morzine
  • Line U | Savoie - Les Granges- Route de la Plagne. A town circular that takes in the centre, Pleney cable car, the old town and the Route de la Plagne.
  • Line P | Route de la Plagne Shuttle.
  • Line N | Pleney - Nyon: Nyon cable car is a great (often quieter) access to Les Gets-Morzine local ski area.
  • Line C | Scenic route: It will take you halfway up the road to Avoriaz, turns around and then it will head up the other side of the valley to 'le Rocher' in the Nyon sector.
  • Line E | Tourist Office - Erigne: The area called 'Erigne' is situated near the Swiss border at the head of the valley (behind Avoriaz). From Erigne, there are plenty of walking or cross-country ski possibilities.
  • The Little Train: This makes a loop in the center of the village linking Pleney and Super-Morzine cablecars.

Childcare

As a family-friendly resort there are numerous childcare options in Morzine (many British-run companies with English speaking staff).

winter scene with snowmen playing in the snow as you could do in Morzine

There is a traditional creche right in the heart of the town (L'outa) with reasonable prices and nice modern facilities, or the ESF Ski School also offers a hybrid childminding and introduction to snowsports service called the Piou Piou Club.

For very little guests you may prefer a nanny service in the comfort of the chalet and for this we'd suggest the following companies:

  • Cheeky Monkeys Morzine: An established firm with plenty of capacity for private nanny services, lunch clubs, ski lesson collection and evening babysitting.
  • Alpine Resort Nannies: An agency that connects families with independent, vetted nannies in resort.

Events - What's On?

The best directory of official events in resort is on the Morzine-Avoriaz resort website. Source magazine also has a great guide to upcoming events.

Hire Equipment - Ski or Snowboard Hire

Doorstep Skis

After several years of very successful partnership we will be working with Doorstep Skis again this winter.

They offer a mobile ski hire service that is second to none with competitive prices, friendly technicians and a great range of well-maintained ski and snowboard equipment. On top of all this, they come to you... No more waiting in queues in busy shops! Just put your feet up and wait for them to arrive.

Gravier Ski shop

For those guests who prefer to rent equipment in Morzine town centre we recommend Gravier Ski shop.

Prices are amongst the best, with excellent equipment, friendly first class-service and a free overnight storage facility.

Intersport Morzine

The largest ski hire operation in resort with three shops in strategic locations. Also a good option for anyone looking to buy equipment or clothing.

Instructor

L

Lessons

Prior to booking any instruction please do speak to us about which side of the valley will be better for your lesson with regards the location of the chalet, where other group members wish to ski etc. We are always happy to advise and make sure that your timings are achievable. Ski lessons are not cheap and we wouldn't want you to miss the start of the class!

This winter we are working closely with 3 ski schools that we feel offer a good range of quality English-speaking tuition with sensible group sizes.

Easy2Ride - Morzine

Easy 2 Ride are our long-term partners in Morzine and have consistently looked after our guests brilliantly for many seasons. Their English-speaking office staff will ensure a smooth booking process and we know that you will be in safe hands when it comes to the quality of tuition.

Alongside traditional ski school groups and private tuition they now offer an 'Easy Rider' freeride group for teenagers. Group sizes are deliberately small (maximum 6 in beginner groups) so as to make sure that everyone gets the right amount of tuition.

British Alpine Ski School - Morzine

The British Alpine Ski School is run by some of the best very best British instructors with a focus on delivering high quality tuition whilst retaining the personal service for which they have become known in the last decade. As well as traditional ski school classes they offer an excellent 'Mini-beginner' course for children as young as 4, and at the other end of the scale they can accommodate even the most experienced skiers in their bumps and off-piste performance groups.

Avoriaz Alpine Ski School

We receive plenty of requests for lessons in Avoriaz and for that reason we have teamed up with Avoriaz Alpine Ski School, the first British run ski school in France (established in 1992).

They offer a great range of courses at sensible prices and we can't recommend them highly enough. All instructors hold the top level international qualification and they can cater for everyone from novices right through to experts on backcountry courses and even a mogul masterclass. The 5 afternoon Junior Black Run Camp is great for those kids who are just too cool for traditional ski school, and they will be tired out after skiing everything the mountain has to offer!

Maison Sport

Maison Sport has grown rapidly since its launch in 2016 and has become the best platform for booking independent instructors in hundreds of resorts. The instructor's qualifications are verified and they are reviewed by guests too in order to give potential customers confidence. All messaging and payments take place through the platform and your instructor is only paid upon completion of the lessons.

Lift Status - Live Piste Info

In the days leading up to your holiday you may find it useful to keep an eye on the status of the lifts and slopes in any given sector. You will be able to check out which lifts are running and which runs are open or closed in Morzine, Les Gets and Avoriaz on this page.

M

Market

You may be primarily in town for a week of snowsports but we can't imagine that anyone wouldn't enjoy a traditional French market with the smells of saucisson and cheese at every turn! If this sounds like your thing you should aim to keep Wednesday morning free with the market happening in the car park outside the Carrefour supermarket between sunrise and 1pm approximately.

Lovely produce can be find at the Market in Morzine, France

Massage

There are so many people offering massage services in ski resorts and their level of experience and qualifications can vary massively. We work closely with Mountain Rehab - a long-standing company with fab English-speaking staff and can help with your bookings.

Mountain Rehab are based in the same building as our Apartment 8 Aiglon and you can go to their modern, spacious HQ for massage, sports physiotherapy or for a range of pilates, yoga and fitness classes. They can also arrange for a massage or physio session in the comfort of the chalet.

N

News

For all of the latest news in Morzine we recommend keeping an eye on our local magazine called Source Magazine. The website is very helpful and a hard copy of the magazine with interesting articles can be picked up in resort too.

Nightsledging

After the ski day why not take a private cable car ride back up to the top of the Pleney and follow a guide the 5km all the way back down Piste B on a high speed tray!
This can be arranged for 6pm on most days and in the early season head torches are provided. Ask us for more details or check out the website of Indiana Ventures. We've done this so many times and it is more fun every time!

Night Life

nightlife in Morzine, France

So many options, so little time! In the immediate aftermath of the lifts closing the best apres ski options can often be found at the foot of the slopes (for example at Le Tremplin in Morzine or Happy Hours in Ardent). Up in Avoriaz there are also plenty of places to drink and dance, the most famous being La Folie Douce.

There are plenty of great bars in the centre of the resort too and these will become busier as the evening wears on. Several bars have regular live music (Cavern, Tibetean Cafe, Dixie's Bar being just a few examples) and there are plenty of chilled out options too from the cocktails at Beanies or a glass of wine at Le Coup de Coeur, to a quiet drink in a comfy sofa at Le 1938 or a few craft beers at Le Bec Jaune.

Later in the night you'll find plenty of the aforementioned bars open until 1am but there is only one true nightclub in resort. L'Opera has everything you'd imagine of an overcrowded and overpriced alpine discotheque and is open until 5am.

O

Opening

The ski season runs from the week before Christmas until Mid-April each year. For winter 2024/25 the lifts in Morzine will open on TBC December and close on TBC April evening but the high-altitude slopes of Avoriaz will be open for an extra week or two either side of those dates (13th of December 2024 to 21st of April 2025).

On a day-to-day basis the ski lifts are generally operational from 9am and close between 4pm and 5pm depending on how far away from the resort they are. As the nights get lighter in February the timings are also adjusted to allow anything up to an extra hour of daily operation in the second half of the season.

P

Parking

All of our chalets have private parking available and given the excellent network of free buses you may find that you don't need to use the car during your stay with us.

If you do prefer to use the car to access the lifts all main access points have car parking available. This is payable however at Pleney, Super Morzine and Prodain. The only remaining free parking is at the Nyon or Ardent cable cars. In the centre of resort there are both multi-storey and streetside parking spaces but sadly all are now payable!

If you park for the day you can expect to pay around 12 euros but it is also possible to pre-book a parking space for the week at between 60 and 90 euros depending on location.

Passes - Ski Passes

There are a lot of considerations when it comes to ski passes but the main thing is that we are here to help and you can purchase them through us at discounted rates (and in Sterling)!
Passes purchased through us will be added to your holiday booking for payment by card or bank transfer and they will be waiting for you at your accommodation. No queues and better prices than buying on the day - surely that's a no-brainer!
Please note that as of 2021 we no longer accept cash in resort for ski passes.

R

Restaurant

Whether it is an evening out on our staff day off or a special lunch in the mountains we can help with plenty of suggestions. In the quieter periods you can often walk in and get a table straight away but for the best places (and particularly in the high season) it is wise to book in advance. We can do that in resort if you speak to chalet staff or even before you leave home (Claire is on standby to help!).

Plenty of restaurant in the Portes du Soleil

On the slopes the Portes du Soleil is blessed with far better than average mountain restaurants. In the local ski area we like L'Hottys and La Roset'taz for an indoor lunch or Les Blanchots for a great value outdoor snack (and the best hot chocolate!).
At the top of the Super Morzine lift La Grenouille du Marais is unbeatable, both in terms of views and food.
In Avoriaz we love Mamo's Café with their friendly service and freshly made buckwheat pancakes, awesome burgers and many other delicious options.
As you head around the wider Portes du Soleil you will find so many other great options but look out for La Ferme des Pistes in Chatel, Chez Gaby in Champoussin (Swiss sector) and Cookie Cafe at the highest point of the area with great chips, pizzas and daily live music / DJ sets.

In resort there are so many restaurants to choose from and the best option depends on your tastes.
For pizzas we love La Flamme, L'Etale has perhaps the most varied menu to suit all tastes and for authentic local cuisine we always gravitate to La Dez'Alp. For a really good gourmet burger meal you will need to try O Chalet. The staff are great and the no-nonsense menu is perfect for a relaxed evening meal.

So many great Restaurant in Morzine

S

Shopping - sport equipment

Fancy treating yourself to some new gear or perhaps you've just forgotten some essentials? We'd suggest a visit to the largest of the three Intersport branches with 3 levels selling a huge range of equipment, sports clothing and leisure wear. It is located on the Rue du Bourg and directly above the Carrefour Supermarket.

Another great option for specialist boot fitting by friendly and experienced staff is Star Ski (located one street away from the Tourist Office in the centre of resort).

Supermarket

Guests at Chalet Claude will be really close to a decent little supermarket called Casino and they will stock most supplies that you are likely to need. For guests in any other accommodation the slightly larger Carrefour Market in the old town is likely to be easier to access and they have a good range of most things (as you'd imagine of a French supermarket there is plenty of cheese, bread and meat!).

Anyone with their own car may prefer the larger Carrefour 5 miles down the valley in Saint Jean D'Aulps with plenty of parking and even more choice (including a fresh fish counter). If you are on foot in the centre of resort there is also a Spar shop for your convenience.

Swimming Pool

Fantastic view from Morzine Swimming Pool

There are now two lovely indoor swimming pools in the area with Morzine hosting a 25m pool with separate baby and beginner pools, 2 steam rooms and 3 saunas - More info about Morzine Swimmming Pool
In Avoriaz we are fortunate to have a fabulous indoor tropical paradise called Aquariaz with climbing walls, sidewinder slide, lazy river and so many fun things for adults and kids alike - More info about Avoriaz Swimming Pool

Both are open daily in winter and prices are reasonable (they also vary depending on time of day). Men should note that board shorts are not allowed in the pool in Morzine - speedos only (not joking!).

T

Taxi

There's no point in beating about the bush... there are taxis in Morzine but getting hold of one at short notice can be tricky! For anything involving a taxi we'd suggest booking in advance as that gives certainty and avoids the potential for waiting around in the snow.

A few of the transfer companies operate evening resort cab services with 8 seater minibuses, and our preferred options are Getaway Vans and Mountain Bus Co. Taxi Julien is also normally very helpful with our guests. If you know that you need a taxi for a particular time just let us know (either before your holiday or in resort) and we will gladly make the booking on your behalf.
You can expect to pay around 15 - 20 euros for an 8 seater from the resort centre to any of our chalets.

The Ski Gathering

The Ski Gathering - We are pleased to operate the Morzine franchise of The Ski Gathering, offering social ski holidays for solo skiers and boarders. This is the perfect ski holiday for outgoing individuals wishing to meet other skiers and avoid the single supplement. It's not just about solo travel though... Sociable twos and threes are welcome too! The Ski Gathering holidays are very relaxed and offer company when you want it, freedom when you don't.

Tourist Office

Located in the heart of the resort and open daily in winter from 9am until 7pm (no lunch break). The staff speak very good English and will always help with information and leaflets for various activities.

W

Weather Forecast

Some websites are better than others when it comes to predicting the weather but in reality it is so unpredictable in the Alps that we'd only rely on it for the following day or 48 hours maximum. Take a look at the free 6 day option at Snow-Forecast.com for a good level of detail that can be adjusted for altitude (1000m is resort level, 1600m is top of Pleney in Morzine and the 2100m is the summit of the Portes du Soleil ski area).

Webcam

There are numerous webcams on both sides of the valley (some panoramic ones included) and you can keep an eye on the conditions using any of the 6 shown on the Tourist Office website.

Wi-Fi

We have free wifi internet access in all of our properties and have done our best to ensure that the speed is as good as can be in a mountain environment. That said, given our remote location there will still be times when you may struggle if everyone in the chalet is attempting to stream videos etc!

In resort most bars and cafes now offer free guest wifi and you can also access the internet at the tourist office (as well as a guest computer in an internet corner). Portable wifi devices can also be hired from the tourist office.
